Areas Generally Suitable for Wind Generation Sites in the GW National Forest

A visit to Grant County — The NedPower - Shell - Dominion industrial wind project is under construction, with 36 of the planned 155 turbines already standing. To see them for yourself, go to Grant County and take Rt. 42 toward Mt. Storm, turning onto Rt. 93 at the Liberty Gas Station.

Take a left on Grassy Ridge Road and drive four miles for a real close-up view of the project.

The one coal-fired power plant visible on the shore of Mt. Storm Lake (above) annually produces power equal to what would take 2,217 of the wind turbines situated on 370 miles of ridge top real estate to produce.

Even more appalling is the realization that the nature of the energy produced by wind turbines — variable, intermittent and virtually useless without compensating duplicate conventional power — will effect no noticeable reduction in CO2 emissions.

Note the ladder attached to the inside of the turbine

" Wind turbines produce energy but they don't produce usable power."
